welcome 2 𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇𝓎𝑜𝓃𝑒 𝒾𝓈 𝒶 𝑔𝒾𝓇𝓁. a new forum for jagged and iridescent reflection on the “girl online”, or rather, the necessity of being a girl online.

Since being launched by writer and curator Ester Freider in December of 2023, Everyone is a Girl (EIAG) has flourished into a multimedia project that creates printed and digital publications, hosts panels and symposia, and platforms a wide spectrum of interdisciplinary work. EIAG’s main theme is the intersection between femininity and internet culture, but our project is also interested in documenting, interrogating, and playing with fandoms, porn, camp, and pseudoacademia.

EIAG has published two in-print zines, focusing on the themes of SEDUCTION and FANDOMS, as well as several Substack releases. Our print work has been distributed by Antenne Books and Meta Label and made available at indie bookstores and fairs across London. 

EIAG has hosted events thus far at the Bread and Butter Collection (Shoreditch), Ethereal Maison Gallery (Bethnal Green), The George Tavern (Stepney Green), Omeara London (London Bridge), Pushkin House (Bloomsbury), and Glebe Road Studios (Dalston). Our work has also been featured at Sexyland (Amsterdam).

𓂃𐀔 meet the team

photoEster Freider (b. 2002) is a Russian-American writer, digital curator, and 'creative academic' residing at the intersection between philosophy and literary studies. She writes autotheory, poetry, and experimental prose; curates and produces live events; creative directs publications; operates as a creative consultant for brands and galleries; makes performance art on the internet. She lives and works in London.

Sofya Rakitina is a London-based multidisciplinary artist and creative technologist. Her practice explores generative systems and computational aesthetics, using code, publishing, and 3D media to examine how form, behavior, and structure emerge in computational systems.

photoJulia is a multidisciplinary artist specializing in user interface design, blending alternative technology with creative visuals. Guided by theory and philosophy, she crafts engaging digital experiences that invite audiences to interact directly with her work, inviting her projects to feel personal, tactile, and inherently collaborative.
photo Paloma Moniz is a Portuguese multidisciplinary graphic designer, visual researcher and Associate Lecturer on MA Graphic Media Design at London College of Communication.Her practice aims to deconstruct and critically reflect on the complexities of contemporary culture, with subjects of interest ranging from online subcultures, fashion, identity and trends.



Stefania Athanasopoulou, an intern at EIAG, is a London-based student and writer. Inspired by the prominent culture of storytelling in her native Greece, Stefania centres narratives in her creative endeavours, whether in writing, fashion, or visual work.




𓂃𐀔 project manifesto

“what is it to be a girl? drawing our project’s name from alex quicho’s article << everyone is a girl online >>, we follow quicho in theorizing the girl as one who ‘tactically’ submits to the wills of the digital algorithm, “vying for both privacy and visibility” through a delicately ‘real’ performance of identity. to participate online is to be a feminine subject, because it subjects one to a self-surveillance from the perspective of the masses. girls embrace the ‘dark forest’ (after bogna konior) of the internet in hopes to manipulate, collectivize, and forge the future. they can engage in 𝑔𝒾𝓇𝓁𝒷𝓁𝑜𝑔𝑔𝒾𝓃𝑔 (@stargir1z) in which the hypertextual leakages of online spaces become a watering ground for performances that perverse time/space.

in addition to girls online, we focus on Ester Freider’s conception of 𝓌𝑒𝓉𝓃𝑒𝓈𝓈 or the “informational sublime”: a quality created through the hyperconnected nodes of today’s platforms. wetness opens endless opportunities for identity rebirth for girls online, while also necessitating the de-nuanced flattening of content and the capitalistic fetish of gnawing endlessness. through wetness’s infective kiss, girls online birth a new landscape: the 𝒸𝓎𝒷𝑒𝓇𝒷𝒶𝓇𝑜𝓆𝓊𝑒. 


just as the baroque (coming from the Portuguese word for an odd, misshapen pearl) introduced entrails of illusion, drama, and subjectivity into early 18th century spaces, the girl, existing in the wet space that is the internet, adopts fluidity and illusion in her online performance. just as baroque ceilings were painted to replicate baby-blue, fluffy-cloud skies, the online girl fashions herself a character both real and saturated.

in this project, we aim to record and weave the thought done by 𝑔𝒾𝓇𝓁𝓈 𝑜𝓃𝓁𝒾𝓃𝑒 as well as their predecessors in cyberfeminism. we discard the priority/possibility of authenticity online, if at all. instead we yield to the pearly cavern of artifice, play, and swarm that might reveal that there was no true self in the first place.”
